How we rate treadmills
Every treadmill and walking pad on GymScope is described with the same fields and rated with the same rules, so any two pages can be compared honestly.
Where the specs come from
We start from the Amazon listing and convert every value into the same units (HP, mph, %, inches, pounds). Treadmill listings often contradict themselves — a belt size in the title that differs from the bullets, a weight limit in kilograms in one place and pounds in another, incline given in degrees. When that happens we say so on the product page and use the more conservative figure. If a value isn't published, we show a dash (—). We never estimate a spec to fill a chart.
Motor horsepower is a manufacturer claim and brands measure it differently (peak vs continuous). Treat small differences as noise.
The seven editor scores
Scores run from 0 to 10. Two are calculated from the spec sheet on fixed scales that are the same across the whole site, so adding new models never changes existing scores. Five are editorial judgments.
| Score | How it's calculated |
|---|---|
| Incline | Formula: max incline ÷ 15% × 10, capped at 10, minus 1.5 when the incline is manual (you stop to change it). Flat machines score 0. |
| Belt room | Formula: belt area (length × width) from 500 in² = 0 to 1,100 in² = 10. Shown as n/a when the belt size isn't published. |
| Motor & speed | Editorial: top speed, motor rating, brushless or not, and owner reports of the motor slowing or overheating. |
| Sturdiness | Editorial: frame material, machine weight, claimed user weight, warranty length and how owners describe stability and durability after months of use. |
| Easy to store | Editorial: folded size, whether it slides under furniture or stands upright, machine weight and wheels. |
| Features & app | Editorial: display, programs, remote, app quality and whether key features need a paid subscription. |
| Value | Editorial: what you get for the price range relative to similar models, weighed against warranty, seller and the owner-review track record. |
The editor score shown on cards is a weighted average: value 20%; motor & speed, incline, belt room and sturdiness 15% each; ease of storage and features 10% each. An axis we can't verify (n/a) counts as 0, so missing data never makes a model look better.
Owner reviews
We read the Amazon customer reviews for each listing and summarize the recurring themes, good and bad, in our own words. When a listing shares its reviews with other models (common on Amazon), we say so.
Prices
We show a broad price range instead of an exact price, because prices on Amazon change daily and the price shown on Amazon at the time of purchase is the one that applies. Click through to see today's price.
