Which treadmill fits you?

Answer seven quick questions. We check every treadmill and walking pad against your workout, stride, weight, incline, storage and budget — and tell you exactly why each one fits or doesn't.

1. How will you use it?
2. How tall are you?
3. Your weight
180 lb

We look for a weight limit at least 15% above yours: machines run cooler and last longer that way.

4. Incline
5. Where will it live?
6. Handrail
7. Budget

Belt length

Your stride gets longer as you speed up and the taller you are. For walking, most people are comfortable on 36–40 in of belt; jogging needs 45–50 in and running 50–58 in. Walking pads (36–41 in) are built for walking, not running.

Weight limit

Brands publish a maximum user weight. Using a machine near its limit every day wears the motor and belt faster, so we treat anything within 15% of your weight as "fits, with caveats".

Incline

Motorized ("auto") incline changes with a button mid-workout. Manual incline means stopping to swap a block or pin — fine if you walk at one setting. Some listings give incline in degrees; we convert to percent grade.
